Collaborate with automotive direct chip manufacturers to ensure supply

According to IT Home, German automaker Volkswagen stated on Wednesday that in response to the global chip shortage, the company has started directly purchasing chips crucial to its strategy from 10 chip manufacturers, including NXP Semiconductor, Infineon Technology, and Renesar Electronics.

Volkswagen stated that it used to rely on its component suppliers to purchase chips, but since October last year, it has directly signed supply agreements with chip manufacturers to ensure their supply safety. With the production of electric vehicles and the demand for increasingly complex software, the demand for chips in the automotive industry has sharply increased, while the construction of chip factories has lagged behind supply due to complexity.
